How
do I get started?
Getting started can be as easy as choosing a design package and sending us an idea. But first, you should think about what general concept for a design you have in mind (if any).
It can be easy to be inspired by pre-existing signs of the past. In fact, that's what we do every day. We encourage our clients to look through images and see what catches their eye, and let us know what elements they would like to see in their design. One of the most extensive sites on the subject can be found here, and another good one can be found here. We invite you to look through these classic signs from across the country and be inspired!
Feel free to give us much input as to the design you're looking for as you like. You can include descriptions, color schemes, sketches or photos of existing signs. Or you can let us come up with a design for you! Either way, your design will be unique and yours to do with as you like.
Some Considerations:
If your company has an established logo, you may opt for a "retro" variation of that logo, but you might want to consider a different design that incorporates your company's name and/or slogan. Many companies have used alternate designs on merchandise such as t-shirts and mugs with great success.
We've built a palette of "retro" colors associated with classic roadside architecture (of which you'll find examples on the questionnaire page), but you are welcome to provide specific information on colors you would like us to use.
We can provide the final images in a variety of formats according to how you intend to reproduce them. If you are unfamiliar with image formats, just let us know what you'd like to do with the images and we'll let you know the formats you'll need.
Since we do not manufacture physical signs, our designs do not take into consideration the practical aspects of real signs. Although we strive to make them appear realistic, in actual construction the designs would have to be altered to account for structural integrity and electrical functionality.
